Shaun Marsh's departure from the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season makes him the sixth Australian to be ruled out due to injury. And looking at the overall injury list at the halfway stage, the total count is 13, of which 11 have flown back home.
The huge number of casualties has turned IPL 9 to nothing less than the 'Injured Premier League', leaving M S Dhoni's beleaguered Rising Pune Supergiants(RPS) the most severely hit.
RPS has lost as many as four players, and interestingly, all of them match-winners on their day: Steve Smith, Faf du Plessis, Kevin Pietersen and Mitchell Marsh.
While Yuvraj is recovering from an ankle injury he suffered during the World T20, Ashish Nehra picked up a groin injury in the early part of this IPL season.
Also Ashish Nehra and Yuvraj Singh are the only players among the 13 who haven't yet been ruled out and are recuperating on the bench.
Apart from the 4 overseas players from Pune and Mumbai's Malinga, Mitchell Starc and Samuel Badree (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Lendl Simmons (MI), Joel Paris (Delhi Daredevils), John Hastings (Kolkata Knight Riders) and Shaun Marsh (Kings XI Punjab) are the other foreigners who won't take any further part in IPL 9
