Princess Sofia of Sweden welcomes a little prince as she gives birth to her and Prince Carl Philip's first child

Princess Sofia has Tuesday April 19,2016 become a mother after giving birth to her and Prince Carl Philip's first child, the royal palace has revealed.

Marshal of the Realm Svante Lindqvist announced the arrival in a brief statement on Tuesday April 19,2016 saying: 'Both mother and child are in good health,' Lindqvist said.

Although the official statement did not include the sex of the child sources have revealed that the couple have had a son.

The couple, who married in June 2015  in the royal palace's chapel (pictured), first announced their pregnancy in a Facebook status in October 2015
