Indian PMs take recourse to central rule twice every year

While many think Central rule is imposed whenever the Centre wants to dismiss a state govt run by an opposition party, the provision has frequently been resorted to deflect a democratic crisis when no party appears to have a majority. As the numbers reveal, Indira Gandhi used the provision the most number of times in her 16 years in office, but it was most frequently resorted to by the Janata Party govt.
