Amidst the untimely uproar surrounding the name of its new compact
hatchback, Tata Motors’ pavilion at the Auto Expo 2016 nonetheless
showcased the Tata Zica.
Among the many highlights of this budget car are the two engine options and spacious interiors
The compact hatchback is available in both petrol and diesel
variants. The 1.2- Revotron petrol motor makes 85PS at 6,000rpm and
114Nm of peak torque from 3,500rpm while the 1.05-litre Revotorq diesel
engine produces 70PS at 4,000rpm and 140Nm between 1,800 and 3,000rpm.
Inside
the spacious hatchback is a Harman touch-screen infortainment system.
On the outside, the face features a honeycomb grille while the overall
profile takes on the likes of Hyundai Grand i10.
Even before the awaited motor show of the year kick started, Tata
Motors was embroiled in a controversy over the name of its new hatchback
that many argued sounded similar to the deadly virus 'Zika'.
Acknowledging the concerns, the carmaker said that it will rename the car. However, during the course of the five-day automobile extravaganza, the hatchback will be showcased with the 'Zica' label and a re-branding will follow in the coming weeks.
The car will be launched in India after it is rebranded and is expected to be priced from around Rs 3.5 lakh.
