With anti-aircraft guns, 1000 snipers and 15000 CCTVs, Delhi turns into fortress on 67th R-Day
On Republic Day, all security apparatus are in place to provide ground-to-air security cover to the capital.- 50,000 security personnel -- around 15,000 from the paramilitary forces, 34,000 from Delhi Police and 1,000 from National Security Guard (NSG) – will be deployed on the streets of the national capital starting at 5 am on January 26 to ensure a safe visit of the chief guest, French President Francois Hollande.
- All entry points to in the city, which has already been put on high alert considering the recent attack on the Pathankot airbase and pan-India arrest of over a dozen suspected terrorists, are under the strict watch of the Delhi Police to pre-empt any possible terror strike.
- Around 15,000 newly-installed CCTV cameras will be used to keep watch over the Republic Day parade route starting from Vijay Chowk at the foot of the Raisina Hill, atop which the Central Secretariat complex sits, to the 17th century Red Fort through Rajpath, India Gate, Tilak Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar Marg and Netaji Subhash Marg.
- NSG snipers will maintain vigil from high-rise buildings within a two-km radius of Rajpath, the spacious central vista of the capital from where the French President along with President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be watching the parade.
- Around 20,000 personnel have already been deployed at specific locations to provide impenetrable security to the French President.
- Rajpath, the three-km stretch which is the main venue of the parade, has nearly 160 CCTV cameras. One camera has been installed every 18 metres.
- Officials said that as part of heightened security arrangements, the city will be declared a no-fly zone, covering a radius of nearly 300 km, for civilian aircraft during the parade.
- A seven-layer security ring will guard the enclosure that would be used by Hollande, Mukherjee and Modi.
- India Gate and Rajpath have already been shut to people and the area is under constant guard by security personnel.
- The airspace over the capital will be monitored by special radars.
- Vehicle movements from Vijay Chowk to India Gate on Rajpath were restricted from 3 pm on Monday till the parade is over on Tuesday (January 26) afternoon.
- Traffic on some major arterial roads in New Delhi like Rafi Marg, Janpath, Man Singh Road will be stopped from 11 pm on Monday till the end of the parade.
- Vehicles, barring those with control and duty lables, will not be permitted to ply in some other New Delhi area, including South Avenue, Thyag Raj Marg, K Kamraj Marg, Sunheri Masjid, Maulana Azad Road, Akbar Road between Man Singh Road and C-Hexagon, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Road, Red Cross Road, Sansad Marg, Imtiaz Khan Road, Rakab Ganj Road, Pt Pant Marg and Church Road.
- Only labelled vehicles of the invitees and vehicles of bona-fide residents of the restricted area shall be permitted to enter.
- Delhi Metro rail service will remain available for commuters at all stations during the parade. However, the entry and exit at Patel Chowk and Race Course stations will remain closed from 8.45 am to 12.30 pm, and the Central Secretariat station will only be used for interchange of passengers. Entry and exit at the Central Secretariat and Udyog Bhawan stations will remain closed from 6 am to 12 pm on January 26.

1. Crisp and short: Duration of this year's Republic Day Parade was cut short by 25 minutes from 115 minutes to 90 minutes.
2. Canine power: After a gap of about 26 years, the dog squad of Indian Army took part in the parade. The 36-member squad included mostly Lebradors and German Shepherds.
3. French Chief Guest: Francois Hollande became the fifth French President to honour the event by becoming the chief guests at the Republic Day Parade.
4. French Army contingent: For the first time, soldiers from French Army participated in the Republic Day parade
5. No CISF, ITBP and SSB contingent: Breaking the years-long tradition, contingents from ITBP, CISF and SSB did not participate in the Republic Day Parade.
6. Delhi fortified: Unprecedented security arrangements in Delhi with 50,000 security personnel, including 15,000 from the paramilitary on guard to prevent any untoward incident. 1000 snipers and anti-aircraft guns were in place with clear instructions to shoot down any unknown flying object during the parade timings.

The highlights of this year's parade will be that for the first time
in the history, a 76-member French Army contingent led by a French
military band consisting of 48 musicians marching on Rajpath. The French Army contingent was led by Lt Col Paul Bury
