Record 23.5 cm Rainfall in Chennai,Tamil Nadu,India Nov 15,2015

Personnel from the Madras 4 Regiment of the Indian Army have been pressed into service at Mudichur in Kancheepuram on the request of the district administration even as Air Force has conducted sorties to rescue citizens, Defence officials said.
The rainfall between 8 A.M on Sunday Nov 15 and 8 A.M on Monday Nov 16,2015 was the most Chennai received in 24 Hours in November in a decade - almost twice as much as the previous record of 14 cm on Nov 07,2005 and probably unsurpassed since the 45.2 cm of Nov 25,1976

Ola provides boats to ferry people in Chennai

Chennai has been water-logged over the past couple of days due to heavy rains. This has led to many people being stranded in water-logged areas. Cab operators like Ola and Uber have been heavily criticised for not being able to send cabs to relevant areas.
Ola has taken a great initiative and deployed boats to ferry out people from the water-logged areas.
Professional rowers have been hired by Ola to navigate the boats and ferry people to safety

TN CM J Jayalalithaa announces Rs 500-crore relief package

With Tamil Nadu hit by monsoon fury causing flood and inundation, Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Monday announced allocation of Rs 500 crore towards relief and rehabilitation. 
The Army’s help has been sought to rescue stranded people at nearby Tambaram, she said. “I have allocated Rs 500 crore towards relief and rehabilitation with immediate effect,” she said. 
Jayalalithaa said that besides spending for relief and rehabilitation, the allocation would also be used for disbursement of solatium to affected people. 

   Railways has cancelled 14 trains including 10 departures from Chennai on Tuesday Nov 17,2015 due to heavy rain. The trains are:

Train No. 12664 Tiruchchirappalli — Howrah Express, scheduled to leave Tiruchchirappalli at 4pm.

Train No. 12507 Thiruvananthapuram — Guwahati weekly Express, scheduled to leave Thiruvananthapuram at 5pm.

Train No. 22643 Ernakulam — Patna Express, scheduled to leave Ernakulam at 5pm.

Train No. 12621 Chennai Central — New Delhi Tamil Nadu Express, scheduled to leave Chennai Central at 10pm.

Train No. 12615 Chennai Central — New Delhi Grand Trunk Express, scheduled to leave Chennai Central at 7.15pm.

Train No. 12840 Chennai Central — Howrah Mail, scheduled to leave Chennai Central at 11.45 pm
