UEFA Team of the Year 2015 Nominees Announced Tuesday Nov 24,2015

The UEFA.com users' Team of the Year 2015 has attracted over 3 million votes in the first 24 hours since polling opened on Tuesday Nov 24,2015

By 13.00CET on Wednesday, 3,067,262 votes had been cast in the poll, which gives fans the chance to select their stars of the year from a 40-strong selection chosen by UEFA.com staff writers on the basis of their performances for a European club or national team in 2015.

UEFA.com users have until 13.00CET on 5 January to cast their vote, with the final lineup to be announced three days later on UEFA.com.

Team of the Year facts

  • This is the 15th Team of the Year
  • Users can pick their formation from four goalkeepers, 12 defenders, 12 midfielders and 12 forwards.
  • UEFA Champions League winners Barcelona provide 8 nominees - Dani Alves, Gerard Piqué, Javier Mascherano, Ivan Rakitic, Andrés Iniesta, Luis Suárez, Neymar Jr and Lionel Messi, the current UEFA Player of the Year.
  • Some 13 clubs figure on the shortlist, from six different leagues, with 19 nationalities represented. 
  • UEFA will once again set aside €100,000 for a player voted into the team to present to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). 
  • Four goalkeepers: Hart (Manchester City), Buffon (Juventus), Neuer (Bayern Munich), Boyko (Dnipro).
    Twelve defenders: Dani Alves, Gerard Piqué and Javier Mascherano (FC Barcelona), Alaba and Boateng (Bayern Munich), David Luiz and Thiago Silva (PSG), Godín (Atlético Madrid), Ricardo Rodríguez (Wolfsburg), Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid), Bonucci and Chiellini (Juventus).
    Ten midfielders: Rakitic and Andrés Iniesta (FC Barcelona), De Bruyne (Manchester City), Hazard (Chelsea), James (Real Madrid), Konoplyanka and Krychowiak (Sevilla), Çalhanoglu (Bayer Leverkusen), Arturo Vidal (Bayern Munich), Pogba and Marchisio (Juventus), Verratti (PSG).
    Ten forwards: Neymar, Luis Suárez and Messi (FC Barcelona), Cristiano Ronaldo and Bale (Real Madrid), Lewandowski and Müller (Bayern Munich), Ibrahimovic (PSG), Agüero (Manchester City), Griezmann (Atlético Madrid), Alexis Sánchez (Arsenal), Morata (Juventus).
