P.C. George resigns from Kerala Assembly

Dissident Kerala Congress (M) member and former Government Chief Whip P.C.George has resigned his membership of the Kerala Assembly.

P C George, who has been waging a battle of sorts with the party leadership , by seeking Finance Minister K.M. Mani's resignation, handed over his resignation letter to Speaker N. Sakthan a while ago.

P C George said his resignation letter should take effect immediately as, under the relevant rules, resignation letters written in front of the Speaker and handed over, would take effect immediately.

Sixty-four year old P C George, has been an outspoken critic of Mr. Mani for most part of his political career, but was accommodated in the KC(M) and made KC(M) vice-chairman. Mr. Mani had made him the Government Chief Whip, a post carrying Cabinet rank, sidelining some of his closest allies and senior leaders of the party.

For several months now, P C George has been working closely with the Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF).

P C George has also been working on reviving his Kerala Congress (Secular) which, he hopes, to take into the LDF as a constituent. In the just concluded local government elections, he had allied with the LDF and reaped rich dividends.
