South Africa will play the second Test of their tour of India at
Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. The venue held its first Test in 1974,
which was won by West Indies, and since then three more teams have
registered victories against India. Pakistan famously won their 1987
encounter against the hosts by 16 runs, in what was Sunil Gavaskar’s
last Test, and they won again in March, 2005, helped by Younis Khan’s
knocks of 264 and 84 not out. India won the last Test held here, in
2012, against New Zealand
South Africa have also won a Test here, in the only Test they have played here. In March, 2000, Hansie Cronje captained them to an innings and 71-run win, helped by an all-round batting and bowling performance. Mohammad Azharuddin scored the final Test century of his career, in what turned out to be his final Test: he was banned for life from cricket after being found guilty of involvement in match-fixing.
The ground is prolific for Pakistan’s batsmen: Younis Khan has scored 431 runs in four innings at 143.66, Inzamam-ul-Haq has scored 215 runs in two innings at 215, and Misbah-ul-Haq has scored 170 in two innings at 170. Sachin Tendulkar is the highest run-getter here, with 869 runs at 62.07, and Anil Kumble the most wickets, 41, in nine matches.
Out of the 20 Tests played at the venue, 12 have produced results. Interestingly, visiting teams have won six of these contests.
Bengaluru has turned out to be a happy hunting ground for visiting
teams. May it be Michael Clarke’s hundred on debut or Inzamam-ul-Haq’s
ton in his 100th Test, away teams have had their moments at the venue in
the last decade.

After a comprehensive 108-run victory in the first Test, Virat Kohli’s boys are expected to come out all guns blazing against a Proteas side which has been plagued by injuries as well as ineptness to survive on tricky sub-continental turners.
With the spinners accounting for 19 of the 20 wickets at Mohali, the onus will again be on Ashwin and Co to deliver the goods as India would like to get an unassailable 2-0 lead in the second game itself.
AB de Villiers – the man who everybody loves unconditionally in India, it seems – who will walk out for his 100th Test when India take on South Africa in the second match of the Gandhi-Mandela series
Bengaluru is De Villier’s home away from home - he has made this stadium his own with his exploits for RCB Bangalore in the IPL
AB de Villiers is not the only one who is on a familiar ground. Virat Kohli, in his second match in India as captain, is also a ‘local boy’, having played with RCB in all eight editions of IPL. Kohli also has a Test hundred to his name at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which came against New Zealand in the last Test that was played at the venue in 2012 -scored 103 and 51*
South Africa, already 1-0 down in the series, have been further hampered by injuries to their key players. Dale Steyn and Vernon Philander's non-availability puts South Africa in a quandary.

Day Five Wednesday Nov 18,2015
Four days of washouts owing to persistent rain and wet ground conditions
led to the second cricket Test being officially called off here today,
with hosts India leading the four-match series against South Africa 1-0.
The on-field umpires called off the match after an inspection at 11.30 local time.
It is the first time in the history of Test cricket in India that four days have been completely washed out.
The last time a major part of a Test in India was washed out was almost a
decade ago when play was held up for three days in a Test in Chennai
