The Election Commission of India(ECI) announced on Wednesday September 09,2015 that the Bihar State Assembly elections would be contested in five phases from October 12 to November 5, this year, and the counting day will be on November 8,2015
ECI said that 6.68 crore voters are eligible to cast their vote in the Bihar elections which will be fought over 243 assembly seats - 47 of these constituencies are affected by left-wing extremism.
Phase 1 of the election, comprising of 49 seats, will be contested on October 12
Phase 2 (32 seats) - October 16.
Phase 3 (50 seats) - October 28.
Phase 4 (55 seats) - November 1.
Phase 5 (57 seats) - November 5
ECI said that the Model Code of Conduct will be put in place immediately and opinion polls by the electronic media will be barred 48 hours before the election kick off on October 12,2015
In an attempt to check confusion created by namesakes contesting elections in the same constituency, the Election Commission has decided that photographs of candidates fighting the Bihar assembly polls will be on the EVMs alongside their names and party symbols.
According to an Election Commission order, in any election being held after May 1, 2015 the ballot papers will carry the picture of the candidate with his or her name and party symbol to avoid confusion among the electorate in constituencies where namesakes are contesting
The 2015 Bihar Assembly Elections promises to be a nail biting showdown between the Narendra Modi-led Bharatiya Janata Party and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal United, who has formed an alliance with Lalu Prasad Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal and Sonia Gandhi's Congress Party
The June 27,2015 bypolls to 6 seats in 5 states were the first elections where photographs of candidates were used on ballot papers.

C-Voter Opinion Poll
The "grand alliance" of JD(U)-RJD-Congress is projected to win between 116 and 132 seats in the 243-member Bihar Assembly for which elections were announced, according to a opinion poll taken by a TV channel.The BJP-led combine including LJP, RLSP and HAM, has been projected to win within a range of 94 to 110 seats, according to the poll conducted by C-Voter
C-Voter said the projections were based on a methodology based on random stratified sample of 10,683 interviews covering all the Assembly constituencies during the last week of August and the first week of September 2015
The margin of error is plus/minus 3 three per cent at the state level and plus/minus 5 per cent at the regional level, the poll agency said.
