2015 Copa América June 11 to July 04,2015

The 2015 Copa América will be the 44th edition of the Copa America, the main international Football Tournament for National Teams in South America.

The competition will be organized by CONMEBOL -  South America's football Governing Body.

The tournament will be held in Chile from June 11 to July 04,2015

12 teams will compete, the10 members of CONMEBOL and 2 guests from CONCACAF  – Mexico and Jamaica, the latter of which will compete in Copa América for the first time.


The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football  is the continental Governing Body for Association Football in North America,Central America and the Caribbean

Host Chile will kick off the 44th edition of the Copa America on Thursday, aiming to end one of the longest-running and most embarrassing records in South American football.

In 36 attempts spanning 99 years, Chile has never won the continent’s top competition. It has finished runner-up four times and third on five occasions.

It is a statistic that rankles the Chileans. Even Bolivia, Colombia, Paraguay and Peru — hardly footballing powerhouses — have at least one Copa trophy to their name.

In the 2011 Copa America held in La Plata(Capital city of the province of Buenos Aires)Argentina ,Uruguay defeated Paraguay 3-0, giving them a record 15th Copa América title and their first since 1995

The tournament will be staged in eight Chilean cities, from Temuco in the lush, green south to Antofagasta in the bone-dry Atacama desert

  

Neymar will spearhead Brazil’s attack and, although left back Marcelo and midfielder Luiz Gustavo have withdrawn through injury, it boasts a formidable squad anchored by Paris Saint Germain team mates David Luiz and Thiago Silva.

The Brazilians open their campaign against Peru in the southern city of Temuco on Sunday before moving north to Santiago for a mouth-watering clash with Colombia — a repeat of last year’s stormy World Cup quarterfinal.

If the groups turn out as expected, Brazil will face Lionel Messi’s Argentina in the semifinals

The Argentines are seeking their first major title since they won the Copa America 22 years ago, having lost last year’s World Cup final to Germany and the 2004 and 2007 Copa finals to Brazil.

Messi is the undisputed star of the Argentine show but Gerardo Martino’s squad is packed with talent from front to back, with Pablo Zabaleta in defence, Javier Mascherano in midfield and Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez up front.
