Greek Banks Shut Until July 6,2015 ATM Withdrawal Limit 60 Euros a Day Monday June 29,2015

Greece announced early Monday June 29,2015 it will shut banks for a week and impose capital controls, pleading for calm after anxious citizens emptied cash machines in a dramatic escalation of the country's debt crisis.

Banks will be closed until July 6 - the day after a referendum on bailout proposals - with a 60-euro ($65) limit on ATM withdrawals, but foreign tourists, a vital engine of the Greek economy, will be exempt from the restrictions

The decree on capital controls, published in the official government gazette and entitled "Bank Holiday break", lists the measures imposed on financial institutions lasting from June 28 to July 6 and was signed by President Prokopis Pavlopoulos and Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras.

It cited "the extremely urgent and unforeseen need to protect the Greek financial system and the Greek economy due to the lack of liquidity caused by the Eurogroup's decision on June 27 to refuse the extension of the loan agreement with Greece". - See more at: http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2015/06/29/greek-banks-shut-until-july-6-atm-withdrawal-limit-60-euros-a-day-govt.html#sthash.FsZo0Z9a.dpuf
