Earthquake measuring 7.5 on richter scale felt in North, East India for over 20 seconds Saturday April 25,2015

North and North East India shook severely for over a minute around 11.40 am on Saturday morning, from a 7.4-magnitude earthquake epicentred in Nepal.

As per the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the epicentre of the quake was Lamjung in Nepal.

All parts of the National Capital Region felt strong tremors. Vibrations were also felt in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Bengal, which are closer to the earthquake-prone Himalayan region.
There was panic in the Capital as people poured out of their homes and offices to streets.
Delhi Metro services were also temporarily suspended, however resumed shortly

In India, tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim.

66 people have been killed in India so far in Saturday's devastating earthquake and aftershocks, with Bihar reporting the highest casualties.

The quake and aftershocks, which were experienced in some parts of North and East India, have also left 288 others injured

Five teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed in Bihar and one in UP for rescue and relief operations of affected people

NDA Govt announced Rs. 6 lakh compensation for kin of those killed in the country due to the earthquake as Prime Minister Narendra Modi took stock of rescue and relief operations at home and in Nepal and directed that they be speeded up through close coordination among agencies.

The above amount is in addition to the compensation of Rs. 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund announced earlier in the day.

A compensation of Rs. 50,000 has also been announced for the seriously injured.

"The next of kin of those who lost their lives in various parts of the country due to the earthquake yesterday shall receive an enhanced compensation of Rs. 4 lakh from the National Disaster Relief Fund," a PMO statement said.

This follows the Union Government's decision to revise the guidelines for the National Disaster Relief Fund and raise this compensation amount from Rs. 1.5 lakh to Rs. 4 lakh in the event of death due to natural calamity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday April 27,2015 donated one month's salary to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for assistance to those affected by the recent earthquake within the country, PMO said.
Members of Lok Sabha also decided to donate one month's salary for earthquake assistance.
The government has already announced Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) as compensation to relatives of those killed. Those seriously injured in the earthquake will get Rs 50,000 from PMNRF.
