2015 ICC Cricket World Cup Match 34 Pool B India Vs Ireland @Seddon Park Hamilton,NZ Tuesday March 10,2015

Designation of a Test cricket venue was bestowed upon Seddon Park 10 years ago in 1991 when New Zealand played Sri Lanka. Two matches of the 1992 Cricket World Cup were held at Seddon Park.

Non-Test playing Ireland have already hunted down two Full Members -- the West Indies and Zimbabwe -- in Pool B so far on their way to six points from four matches

Ireland are no strangers to upsetting big teams. They famously ousted Pakistan from the 2007 World Cup held in the West Indies on their way to the Super Eights where they beat Bangladesh and then defeated England in the 2011 tournament.

The last time India met Ireland was in Bangalore during the 2011 WC where the hosts comfortably beat their opponents by five wickets as Yuvraj Singh emerged as the star performer with a 'five-for' and a half-century.

Ireland won the toss and chose to bat first

India thrashed Ireland by 8 wickets to record their 9th consecutive win in the World Cup overall and 5th on the trot in the current edition to top pool B.

Ireland came into the match knowing that a point would see them qualify.

Despite an opening stand of 89 between William Porterfield and Paul Stirling and 75 from Niall O'Brien, their 259 total was never likely to be enough.

Ireland well, with Porterfield (67) and Stirling (42) using the pace of the opening bowlers well to amass an encouraging opening stand and suggest a competitive total over 300 was a possibility.
But India's switch to spin bowling halted their progress as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravinda Jadeja and Suresh Raina frustrated the top order and claimed the important wickets of Ed Joyce (bowled by Raina) and Andy Balbirnie (caught by Mohammed Shami off Ashwin).
Niall O'Brien offered resistance and hit well but when he and brother Kevin both fell to Shami, Ireland's hopes of a decent score disappeared

So it proved as Shikhar Dhawan (100) and Rohit Sharma (64) helped India to a comfortable eight-wicket victory.

India's fifth consecutive win was also the team's ninth in a row in World Cups with Dhoni as skipper, which helped him break Sourav Ganguly's record of 8 victories on the bounce. It also took Dhoni past former West Indies captain Clive Lloyd to No. 2 in the overall list of captains with most consecutive wins at World Cup

With nine straight World Cup wins under their belt, the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led India stand only second to Ricky Ponting's Australian side that registered 24 consecutive victories
