After Sri Lanka’s newly-elected government sought more
time to complete its internal probe into the alleged war crimes
committed during the nation’s civil war, the United Nations Human Rights
Council on Tuesday Feb 17,2015 extended the deadline for release of the report by
six months.
The report, which was earlier scheduled
to be released on March 25,2015 during the 28th session of the UNHRC, will
now be out in September 2015
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein said it was a
“difficult decision” to postpone the release of the report but added
that given the changing context in Sri Lanka, there is possibility that
important new information may emerge which will strengthen the report.
