Day Three Sunday Aug 17,2014
England thrashed India inside three days in the fifth Test to complete a 3-1 series victory.
India were skittled out for 94 in only 29.2 overs in the 2nd innings as England won by an innings and 244 runs at The Oval.
Chris Jordan claimed four wickets for 18, while James Anderson took two
Chris Woakes took wicket of MS Dhoni and ran out Gautam Gambhir
India's embarrassment began with the ball as England racked up 101 runs
in 11.3 overs to extend their first-innings lead to 338. Root, who had
overnighted on 92, finished unbeaten on 149 from only 163 balls, his
last 100 runs taking only 70 balls, evidence of how keenly he had
wrested the initiative on Saturday evening.
Earlier, Joe Root hit 149 not out as England posted 486India's total was their lowest at The Oval and the first time they have been bowled out for fewer than 100 since 2008.
India lasted a mere 29.2 overs, barely a session, with only a shower enabling them to hold out until 4.22pm and the humiliation of being bowled out for 94. It was India who were the biggest shower. In their last five innings they mustered 178, 152, 161, 148 and now double figures, worse even than England’s harrowing performances in Australia.
England are only the second team to come from behind after two Tests to win the final three Tests of a series. Donald Bradman's Australia recovered from 2-0 down to beat England 3-2 in the 1936-37 Ashes

What a
turnaround for Alastair Cook and England since they went one down in the
second Test with a last-day collapse that saw knives being increasingly
sharpened for the captain and all those involved in their rebuilding
programme.
What
an embarrassment for MS Dhoni and India as they contemplate their total
surrender at The Kia Oval to follow equally abject displays at
Southampton and Old Trafford.
Less than four weeks ago, India secured an historic win at Lord's to go
1-0 up in the Investec series. They have since been trounced three
times: by 266 runs at the Ageas Bowl, by an innings and 54 on a
relatively quick pitch at Old Trafford, and now by an innings and 244
runs
Joe Root celebrates his century on his way to making 149* in England's innings of 486 -5yj Test Match Ton
Stuart Broad, batting for the first time since having his nose broken by an
Aaron bouncer, played with no fear as he cut and pulled short balls in a
blistering 37 off 21 balls, including five fours and a six.
M S Dhoni is well taken by Sam Robson at short leg off Chris Woakes
Jos Buttler runs out Varun Aaron as England wrapped up their 3-1 series victory
