Prime Minister Narendra Modi dismantle 4 cabinet committees tuesday June 10,2014

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday  June 10,2014 dismantled 4 Cabinet committees, including one for the UPA's flagship programme of Unique Identification Authority (UID).

The Cabinet committee on management of natural calamities was done away with, and its work will be directly handled by the cabinet secretary whenever a disaster occurs.

The Cabinet committee on UID was scrapped, and all issues related to it will be dealt with by the Cabinet committee on economic affairs.

Issues related to the cabinet panel on the World Trade Organisation will go to the cabinet committee on economic affairs.

The committee on prices was also discontinued on Modi's orders, and its issues will now be handled by the Cabinet committee on economic affairs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also re-constitute -
  • appointments committee of the Cabinet
  • committee on economic affairs
  • committee on parliamentary affairs
  • committee on political affairs and
  • Cabinet committee on security.

The moves follow the government's decision to scrap several Groups of Ministers (GoMs) constituted by the UPA.

The 30- odd GoMs and Empowered Groups of Ministers, set up by the UPA to deal with inter-ministerial issues, were seen as stumbling blocks to decision making.
