The Carnival of Brazil is an annual festival held during the Friday to the Tuesday before The Ash Wednesday, which marks the beginning of Lent, the forty-day period before Easter
The Carnival, which runs across the whole country until March 4, will showcase
Brazil’s diverse culture with a variety of sensational festivities in
cities including Salvador, Sao Paulo, Florianopolis, and of course, Rio
de Janeiro
According to
the tourism ministry, the Northeast region of Brazil as a whole will
attract around 1.6 million tourists during the Carnival celebrations,
generating BRL $2.2billion (£570million), BRL $1.7billion (£450million)
of which is related solely to tourism - 10 per cent increase on last
year.

Samba parades, flamboyant costumes and lively street parties are the
order of the day today - Friday Feb 28,2014 with many revellers donning World Cup-themed
gear
Ronaldo was the focal point of Carnival celebrations in his home country on Saturday.
In
a nod to the upcoming World Cup in Brazil, a major samba-school founded
by fans of Corinthians made the legendary striker the theme of their
elaborate parade in Sao Paulo.
Dressed
in an all-gold suit, shirt and tie the 2002 World Cup winner was the
star attraction as he stood atop a float with scantily-clad female
bodyguards, as well as his mother Sonia and father Nelio
