Brazilian President Dilma
Rousseff has pledged millions of dollars in federal aid to two
south-eastern states where floods have killed at least 30 people
Six people died in Espirito Santo and 14 in Minas
Gerais, including several minors. Most were killed in flood-caused
landslides that buried their homes
A number of homes, roads and bridges were destroyed and many cities were left without power and drinking water.
In Espirito Santo alone, 40,000 people have been left homeless due to severe flooding in the state capital Vitoria and its metropolitan area.
Espirito Santo State Governor Renato Casagrande has declared a state of emergency in 45 of his state's 78 towns
The floods, caused by days of rains, are feared to be the worst in 90 years.
