The CONCACAF Qualification for the 2014 FIFA World Cup consists of 4 rounds of competition, in which the 35 member nations compete for 4 places
All 35 FIFA-affiliated National Teams from CONCACAF entered qualification
The United States and Costa Rica qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup
The U.S. won 2-0 at home against Mexico while Costa Rica drew 1-1 at Jamaica.It will be a return to the World Cup for Costa Rica, which appeared at the 2002 and 2006 World Cups but did not qualify for South Africa 2010
Their berths in the 2014 FIFA World Cup were confirmed when Honduras drew 2-2 against Panama
The CONCACAF Qualifiers will resume on Oct. 11,2013 when Mexico will be at home against Panama in a crucial clash between the teams in fifth and fourth place respectively, locked together on 8 points
First Round
In the first round of the CONCACAF qualifiers,the bottom 10 teams being paired up into 5 home-and-away series, with the highest ranked team facing the lowest ranked team and so on. The winners of these series proceeded to the second round.
Second Round
In the second round, the teams ranked 7–25 were joined by the 5 winners from the first round. These teams were drawn into 6 Groups of 4 Teams.The top team from each group advanced to the third round.
Third Round
The third round saw the top 6 seeds joined by the 6 group winners from the second round. These teams were drawn into3 groups of 4 teams. The top two teams from each group advanced to the fourth round
Fourth Round
The fourth and final round, also known as the "Hexagonal", is a round-robin competition with 6 participants, and the top 3 teams will advance directly to the Finals. The 4th-placed finisher will play a two-game series against New Zealand, the first-placed team from Oceania , for the final place at the Finals.
