The National Electoral Council said Nicolas Maduro(United Socialist Party of Venezuela) won 50.7 %of the votes, as compared to 49.1% for his rival, Miranda state Governor Henrique Capriles Radonski(Justice First Movement)
Hugo Chavez, who ruled Venezuela for 14 years, anointed Nicolas Maduro as his political heir in his last speech to the country before succumbing to cancer on March 5,2013
