BJP won 47 of the 76 municipalities that went to the polls and Congress could win only 9,while Independents got majority in another 9 municipalities, no one emerged as a clear winner in 10 municipalities.
Out of 76 municipalities where election were declared, Halvad in Surendranagar and Kutiyana in Porbandar were won by BJP unopposed and polling was held for 74 'Nagar Palikas' or municipalities on Sunday Feb 10,2013
State Election Commission officials said that out of 1,905 seats for which results were declared, BJP won on 1,142 (59.95 per cent) while the Congress won 442 seats (23 per cent). Independents won 290 seats (15.22 per cent). NCP, BSP and SP won 16, 13 and two seats, respectively.

State BJP vice president I K Jadeja said, "People have once again voted for chief minister Narendra Modi's development work. We have won municipalities in towns that have elected senior Congress leaders as MPs and MLAs. These include Surendranagar, Dhoraji, Jasdan, Songadh, Chanasma, and Vallabh Vidyanagar among others."
State BJP spokesperson I K Jadeja said that besides retaining all the Municipalities where BJP was in power, the party has snatched 10 from the ruling Congress party.
INC President Arjun Modhwadia said, "We contested in 57 municipalities on the party symbol and won 19
Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) leader Keshubhai Patel said his party won 54 seats.
