A two-day nationwide strike has been called by 11 trade unions over price rise and labour laws.The unions have put forward a charter of 10 demands such as urgent steps to control price rise, strict enforcement of labour laws in all places of work, social security net for workers in the unorganised sector, end to disinvestment in PSUs and raising minimum wage to Rs 10,000 a month
Major sectors affected include banking, insurance, post, transportation and coal.

People at the Delhi Railway Station faced problems as some of them said that private taxis were not plying too
Schools and colleges remained shut in Bangalore.The maximum impact is in Kerala where banks and shops are shut and taxis, autos, private and public buses are not running. The Kerala government announced 'no work no pay' for all government employees supporting the trade unions' strike.

In West Bengal,Private educational institutions are mostly closed, but shops and establishments are partially open.
In New Delhi and Mumbai, bus and suburban train services were running without disruption
During the Bharat Bandh or all-India strike today, factories and cars were vandalized in Hoisery Complex, Phase 2 in Noida near Delhi. Some factory-owners claim their property was looted. Factory owners told almost all building and warehouses in the complex was found vandalised with glass on facades found broken. Harjeev Chawla, one factory owner told that he began getting calls since around 8 am that mobs were roaming around the complex breaking glass and setting cars on fire. "When I came into the complex a few hours later, every single building had their glass broken and I saw several cars either still on fire or completely charred," he said.
In Samajwadi Party-ruled Uttar Pradesh, 50,000 state road transport employees were on strike. Some 9,000 government buses were off the roads
CITU's Jharkhand Chapter General Secretary DD Ramanandan claimed that loading, unloading and production of coal at various collieries under the CCL and the BCCL were affected as labour force joined the strike demanding controlling price, strict implementation of labour laws and other demands
CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta called the trade unions' strike unprecedented and said the government had not tried to reach out to unions. "The strike across the country is unprecedented. Autos and taxis are off the roads. Bank, insurance, telecom is closed. All oil supply is being stopped in Delhi.
