Ecuador is a Presidential Representative Democratic Republic where the President of Ecuador is both the Head of State and Head of the Govt and of a Multi-Party System.
The President and Vice-President are elected on the same ticket by popular vote for four-year term.As per the Constitution,the President can serve two four-year terms.

Rafael Correa is the 54th and Current President of Ecuador in office from Jan 15,2007 after winning the Ecuadorian General Election held on Oct 15,2006 and Run-Off Nov 26,2006 in which
Rafael Correa of PAIS Alliance (Proud and Sovereign Fatherland) secured 57% Votes
and defeated Alvaro Noboa(PRIAN, which means Institutional Renewal Party of National Action) who got only 43% Votes.
Rafael Correa was re-elected for a 2nd term in the Ecuadorian General Election held on April 26,2009 in which Rafael Correa secured 52% Votes and
defeated Lucio Gutiérrez (Patriotic Society Party) who got 28% Votes
and Alvaro Noboa(PRIAN)who got 11% Votes
On winning the election Rafael Correa became the 1st sitting president to be reelected since García Moreno since 1875.

The National Assembly is the Legislative Branch of the Govt of Ecuador that replaced the National Congress in 2009 under the 2008 Constitution and the National Assembly has 124 Seats elected by popular vote for a 4-year term.

PAIS secured 46% Votes and got 59 Seats
Patriotic Society Party secured 15% Votes and got 19 Seats
Social Christian Party secured 14% Votes and got 11 Seats
PRIAN secured 6% Votes and got 7 Seats
Other secured 19% Votes and got 28 Seats
