Tom Hanks

Thomas Jeffrey "Tom" Hanks (born July 9, 1956) is an American actor, producer, writer, and director.
Tom Hanks gained wide notice in 'Big'(1988) a romantic comedy film.

















 Sleepless in Seattle(1993) is a romantic comedy film about a widower who finds true love over the radio.The film won Outstanding Family Motion Picture for Comedy, Meg Ryanwon the award for Funniest Actress in a Leading Role at the American Comedy Awards and Ross Malinger won the award for Best Actor Under Ten in a Motion Picture at the 1994 Young Artists Awards
 







Tom hanks won the Academy Award for Best Actor for his role in 'Philadephia'(1993) where he played a gay lawyer with AIDS who sues his firm for discrimination. To get into his character, Hanks lost 35 pounds and thinned his hair in order to appear sick for the role.Philadelphia was one of the first mainstream Hollywood films to acknowledge HIV/AIDS,Homosexuality and Homophobia


Tom Hanks won his 2nd Best Actor Academy Award for his role in 'Forrest Gump'(1994).The story depicts several decades in the life of Forrest Gump, an Alabama simpleton who travels across the world, meeting historical figures, influencing popular culture, and experiencing firsthand some of the historic events of the late 20th century.Forrest Gump was well received by critics and became a commercial success as the top grossing film in North America released that year. The film earned over $677 million worldwide during its theatrical run.


Apollo 13(1995) got critical acclaim and was nominated for many awards, most notably 9 Academy Awards including Best Picture; it won for Best Film Editing and Best Film Mixing.The film grossed over $355 million worldwide during its theatrical releases.

















Saving Private Ryan (1998) American War Film set during the "invasion of Normandy"(was the invasion and establishment of 'Allied Forces' in Normandy, France, during 'Operation Overlord in World War II) in World War II.Directed by Steven Spielberg and screenplay by Robert Rodat,he film is notable for the intensity of its opening 27 minutes.The film is about search for a paratrooper, Private First Class James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon), who is the last surviving brother of four servicemen.The film was labeled as one of the finest war films ever made.
Saving Private Ryan' was well received by audiences and garnered considerable critical acclaim, winning several awards for film, cast, and crew as well as earning significant returns at the box office. The film grossed US$481.8 million worldwide, making it the highest-grossing domestic film of the year
 


You've Got Mail(1998) American Romantic Comedy Film.It is based on a manuscript of the same title written by the film's director, Nora Ephron in which two letter-writing lovers are completely unaware that their sweetheart is in fact the person with whom they share a certain degree of animosity



The Green Mile(1999) American drama film told in a flashback format and tells the story of Tom hanks (Paul Edgecomb) and his life as adeath row orrections Officer during the Great Depression in the United States, and the Supernatural events he witnessed.The film won him a Favourite Actor Award at the 2000 Blockbuster Entertainement Awards.


Cast Away(2000) starring Tom Hanks as a FedEx employee stranded on an uninhabitated island after his plane crashes in the south Pacific. The film depicts his successful attempts to survive on the island using remnants of his plane's cargo, as well as his eventual escape and return to society.Tom Hanks won a Golden Globe for Best Actor and an Academy Award nomination for his portrayal in this film.


Road to Perdition(2002) American Period Drama Film.The film stars Tom Hanks,Paul Newman,Jude Law and Daniel Craig. The plot, taking place during the Great Depression, follows a mob enforcer and his son as they seek vengeance against a mobster who murdered the rest of their family.The cinematography, setting, and the lead performances by Newman (in his final theatrical screen appearance) and Hanks were well-received by critics.

















Catch Me If You Can(2002) American biographical comedy-drama film based on the life of Frank Abagnale Jr.who, before his 19th birthday, successfully performed cons worth millions of dollars by posing as a Pan American World Airways Pilot, a Georgia doctor, and a Louisiana Parish Prosecutor. His primary crime was check fraud; he became so skillful that the FBI eventually turned to him for help in catching other check forgers. The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Leonardo Dicaprio as Abagnale,Tom Hanks as Hanratty.

















The Terminal(2004) a Comedy Drama Film Directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones. It is about a man trapped in a terminal at NewYork's John F Kennedy Airport when he is denied entry into the USA and at the same time cannot return to his native country, the fictitious Krakozhia, due to a revolution The film is partially inspired by the 18-year-stay of Mehran Karimi Nasseri  in the Charles de International Airport,Terminal I,Paris,France from 1988 to 2006.





















The Ladykillers(2004) is a black comedy film based on the 1955 Ealing comedyof the same name.the film is about -
Mrs. Marva Munson (Irma P. Hall), an elderly, God-fearing widow meets Professor Goldthwaite Higginson Dorr (Tom Hanks), who expresses his interest in the room she has to let and asks to use her basement as a place for recitals with his fellow "musicians". She accepts the terms and agrees. Mr. Dorr's fellow "musicians" are actually a gang of criminals, named Lump (Ryan Hurst), The General (Tzi Ma), Garth Pancake (J. K. Simmons), and Gawain (Marlon Wayans).
With all of their talents combined, the group of criminals plan to dig through the crumbling, dried earth that has piled up to form a tunnel in Mrs. Munson's basement and conclude that they will emerge in the vault of the casino.After a series of comical mishaps that threaten to derail their plan, they break through the wall of the vault and snatch the loot

The Polar Express(2004)  is a motion capture computer-animated film based on the children's book of the same title by Chris Van Allsburg. Written, produced, and directed by Robert Zemeckis, the human characters in the film were animated using live action performance capture technique, with the exception of the waiters who dispense hot chocolate on the train, because their feats were impossible for live actors to achieve.

















The Da Vinci Code( 2006) is aAmerican mystery thriller film.It was the second highest grossing film of 2006 worldwide, earning $758,239,851.
