If you hold a passport of either Singapore or Japan, you sure are a
lucky person as you will get to enjoy visa-free travel in 180 countries
of the world.
In the race for the world’s most powerful passports, Germany has been outperformed by two Asian nations – Japan and Singapore. As per Henley Passport Index of 2018, released on Wednesday Feb 28,2018 Germany has slipped to second spot with Japan and Singapore jointly grabbing the top rank.
The development comes after Uzbekistan lifted visa requirements for citizens of both countries earlier this month.
Notably, a person with German passport is allowed visa-free access by 179 nations.
The third spot is shared by seven countries together – France, Italy, Spain, Denmark, Finland, Sweden and South Korea.
One holding the passport of these countries are allowed visa-free travel to 178 nations.
In an official release, Henley & Partners claimed that cross-border agreements on short-term travel have been far more frequent in the Asian and Middle East regions in comparison to their European and American counterparts in the recent months.
The United States ranked fifth with its passport holders getting visa-free access to 176 nations. Russia trailed far behind the US in the ranking standing on the 45th spot while China closely followed Russia securing the 47th spot. India was given the 81st spot.
The Indian passport holder gets a visa-free-access to 56 countries, as per the index. Ukraine (42) was found to be the biggest climber as the country scaled 16 spots.
As many as 118 countries allow visa-free-access to Ukranian passport holder.
Meanwhile, countries like Somalia (101), Pakistan (102), Syria (103), Iraq (104), and Afghanistan (105) were kept given the bottom five spots in the index.
