Hike Messenger launches `Hike direct’ messaging services Thursday Oct 08,2015

Hike Messenger on Thursday  Oct 08,2015 launched 'Hike direct', which will allow users to chat, exchange stickers, transfer photos and heavy files of any type without using the Internet and without incurring data charges.

It will allow mobile phones to connect directly with one another directly within a 100 metre radius completely by passing the telecom networks, the company said.

Users can then chat and share files directly up to a speed of 40Mbps with low latency, which is comparable if not better than 4G speeds, it said.

"Hike direct has been built on breakthrough technology that adds a whole new dimension to messaging enabling hikers to chat and share files with their friends without the Internet. Data or no data, Hike will always work," Kavin Mittal, founder and Chief Executive Officer, Hike Messenger, said here at the launch.

Note
Launched in December 2012 Hike Messenger is a Joint Venture between Bharti Enterprises and Soft Bank

Hike Messenger, a homegrown chat application, has launched free ‘hike calls’, a feature that permits users to call each other for free. Users can make the call over 2G, 3G and Wi-Fi enabled networks to 200 countries.
The launch of hike calls follows its first acquisition, a free calling application, Zip Phone.
