Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Visit for Narendra Modi’s swearing-in function Opposed by Political Parties in Tamil Nadu

The Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, one of the allies of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), has requested the Prime Minister-designate not to allow Mr. Rajapaksa to participate in the function to be held in New Delhi on May 26,2014
“With folded hands and anguish, I request you, BJP president Rajnath Singh and NDA leaders not to permit the Sri Lankan President to take part in the event. His participation will hurt and cause pain to the Tamils,” MDMK general secretary Vaiko said

MDMK general secretary Vaiko met Narendra Modi and BJP president Rajnath Singh in New Delhi and made a fervent appeal that the Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa be prevented from participating in the event

DMK Leader M Karunanidhi said the invitation to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and his participation could never be welcomed by the Tamils in the mainland and across the world

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has described as ‘unfortunate’, the Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi’s invitation to Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa for his swearing—in ceremony on May 26.
Ms. Jayalalithaa has expressed her ‘dismay’ and ‘anguish’ over the move, saying the ‘ill-advised’ move could have been avoided.
