2014 Odisha Lok Sabha and Assembly Election

 
The Elections Commission of India(ECI)have announced on Wednesday March 05,2014 that the assembly elections for the States of Andhra Pradesh(Telangana and Seemandhra)Odisha and Sikkim will be held along with the 16th Lok Sabha Elections scheduled over a period of 9 days in 9-phases from April 07 to May 12,2014

Odisha has 21 Lok Sabha Constituencies and 

Odihsa has 147 Assembly constituencies

 BJD Announce 1st list Thursday March 13,2014
Announcing the first list of candidates for 5 Lok Sabha and 30 assembly constituencies, BJD president Naveen Patnaik said the rest of nominees for the first phase of twin polls scheduled on April 10 in the state would be declared soon

For the assembly, the party retained 5 ministers - Revenue minister S N Patro in Digapahandi, Women and Child Development minister Usha Devi (royal family member) in Chikiti, Tribal Development minister Lal Behari Himirika in Rayagada, Industries minister Niranjan Pujari in Sonepur and Transport minister Subrat Tarai in Raghunathpalli seat.

BJD releases second list for 3 Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly seats

 The ruling BJD on Friday March 14,2014 denied tickets to two sitting MLAs from Malkangiri and Deogarh, while announcing the second list of candidates for three Lok Sabha constituencies and 18 Assembly segments.

3 Lok Sabha Seats candidates announced are -
Sambalpur - former minister Nagendra Pradhan
 Bargargh-Dr Pravas Singh
 Nabarangpur  - Balabhadra Majhi
 

While denying ticket to Malkangiri MLA Mukund Sodi, BJD nominated Manas Madkami from the Assembly segment and Deogarh MLA Sanjeeb Kumar Pradhan was replaced by Anita Pradhan.

Earlier in the first list, the BJD had named candidates for 30 Assembly and 5 Lok Sabha seats. With the second list, the BJD named candidates for the total of 8 Lok Sabha seats and 48 Assembly segments.

The first phase of polling in the state will be held on April 10 in 70 Assembly and 10 Lok Sabha seats.

The BJD is yet to decide on the candidates for the rest 22 Assembly seats and two Lok Sabha segments for the first phase.

Naveen Patnaik Files Nomination Papers Wed March 19,2014

Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday March 19,2014 filed his nomination for the Assembly polls from Hinjili constituency in Ganjam district and expressed confidence about BJD retaining power in the state.
A 3-time legislator from Hinjili, Patnaik also exhibited optimism about BJD retaining power in the state by winning majority of seats in the assembly election, which are scheduled to take place with lok sabha polls.
After winning the assembly election from Hinjili constituency in 2000, the BJD supremo tasted victory from the same segment in his home district in successive assembly polls held in 2004 and 2009.
This time, Patnaik is likely to face a multi-corner contest. While Congress is yet to name its candidate, BJP has announced Devanand Mohapatra as its choice for the seat and other parties are likely to field their nominees.

2014 Lok Sabha Election Phase 3 Polling Thursday April 10,2014 -10 Seats

Polling began on Thursday for 10 Lok Sabha and 70 assembly seats in Odisha in Phase 3 of 2014 Lok Sabha Election

Over 13 million electors will cast their ballot in the first phase of polling.

There are a total of 2,88,80,850 voters in the state.

The10 seats in Odisha are-Aska,Bargarh,Berhampur,Bolangir,Kalahandi,Kandhamal,Koraput,Nabarangpur, Sambalpur and Sundergarh

Altogether 98 candidates, including Congress stalwarts and former chief ministers Giridhar Gamang and Hemanand Biswal, former union ministers Jual Oram (BJP) and Bhakta Charan Das (Congress) are in the race for the ten LS seats while Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is among the assembly candidates in fray

A total 673 aspirants were contesting in 70 assembly seats.


Polling for the remaining 11 Lok Sabha seats and 77 assembly seats would be held in the second phase on April 17,2014 in Phase 5 of 2014 Lok Sabha Election
In the electoral battle for Orissa which accounts for 11 Lok Sabha Seats and 77 Assembly Seats, it is the politically-sensitive coastal belt and the two northern districts which will decide Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's fate.
Most constituencies in the coastal belt are witnessing triangular contests with the key Lok Sabha seats being Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Balasore and Kendrapara.

All eyes are on Balasore where union minister Srikant Jena is locked in a triangular fight with Biju Janata Dal's Rabindra Jena, who gave up a cushy corporate job to take the political plunge, and BJP hawk Pratap Sarangi. 

2014 Lok Sabha Election Phase 5 April 17,2014 - 11 Seats

In the 2009 elections, BJD had won 9 of the 11 Lok Sabha constituencies and around 70 of 77 the Assembly seats going to the polls on April 17,2014
 
The coastal and northern regions of Odisha are scheduled to go to the polls on April 17,2014

It is for the first time that Odisha Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) president Naveen Patnaik is fighting the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections alone

This is for the first time that the BJD is fighting the elections without having alliance or seat-sharing arrangement with any other party

BJP had emerged as the third major contender across the State by riding the ‘Modi wave’, even though the main opposition, Congress, had remained weak due to factionalism.  

There are 98 candidates, including 11 women would be decided in the Lok Sabha elections for 10 seats and that of 747 candidates, including 65 women, in the Assembly Election for 77 seats

An electorate of over 1.55 crore voters were eligible to exercise their franchise in 18,692 booths.
Around 1.41 lakh polling would conduct the polling.

The 10 LS Seats are -
Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Puri, Jagatsinghpur and Bhunaneswar.
