Subsidised Cylinders(Cooking Gas) to be raised to 12 per year Friday Jan 17,2014

The GOI today Friday Jan 17,2014 announced that it would raise the quota of subsidized cooking gas, making an important concession ahead of the national election, moments after Rahul Gandhi forcefully raised the demand at a Congress party Meet in Delhi

"Pradhan mantri-ji (Prime Minister, Sir), we cannot make do with just nine subsidized cylinders of cooking gas. Women in this country need more. We need 12 per family, sir, please increase the quota," Mr Gandhi said, addressing thousands of party workers gathered for a conclave in Delhi.

Shortly after he finished speaking, Oil Minister Veerappa Moily announced that the quota of subsidised cylinders would be raised from nine to 12, a move that will cost the government an extra Rs. 3300-3500 crore a year.

Note
The GOI had capped the supply of subsidised cooking gas cylinders to six per household per year in September, 2012.
This was later raised to nine cylinders in January 2013
