FIH Hockey World League


The FIH Hockey World League is an International Field Hockey Competition organised by the International Hockey Federation (FIH).

The competition, which is held over two years, also serves as the qualifier for a Hockey World Cup (Men and Women's) and the Olympic Games

Competition Format

Both men and women's tournament have four rounds of competition. Some teams receive a bye depending on the FIH World Rankings at the time of seeking entries.
  • Round 1: the number of events depends on the number and location of entries received by the FIH.
  • Round 2: 4 events of 6 teams in each. Teams ranked 9th to 16th, the host nation (exempt from Round 1) and 12/16 teams qualified from Round 1 compete.
  • Semifinals: 2 events of 8 teams in each. Teams ranked 1st to 8th, the host nation and 6/8 teams qualified from Round 2 compete. This round serves as the qualifier for the World Cups (Men & Women's ) and the Olympic Games as the 6/7 highest teams apart from the future hosts and the Continental Champions qualify.
  • Finals: 8 team event. The host nation and 7 teams qualified from Round 3.


 The 2012–14 Men's FIH Hockey World League is the inaugural season of the FIH Hockey World League for Men.
The tournament started in August 2012 and is scheduled to finish in February 2,2014

 The 2012–14 Men's FIH Hockey World League Final will take place between 10–18 January 2014 in New Delhi,India
The Host Nation India qualified automatically in addition to 7 teams qualified from the Semifinals making a total of 8 teams competing in this tournament.The competing teams are -

  • Belgium
  • Australia
  • Netherlands
  • New Zealand
  • Germany
  • Argentina and
  • England
