Election Commission of India(ECI) Notifies Election Dates for 5 States Friday Oct 5,2013

The Election Commission of India(ECI)announced on Friday Oct 5,2013 that the polls to the Assemblies in the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the States of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Mizoram will be held between November 11 and December 4,2013 and Counting of votes will be taken up on December 8,2013

Chief Election Commissioner V.S. Sampath told journalists here that as per the Supreme Court direction, a ‘None of the Above’ button (the option of rejecting all candidates) would be provided in electronic voting machines in the polls

The only non-Congress CM to rule Madhya Pradesh for five years in continuation, Shivraj Singh Chouhan is in the fray for a third term and will ask voters to bring the BJP and him back to power for an third consecutive term. Challenging him is the Congress led by Jyotiraditya Scindia.

In Chhattisgarh,Chief Minister Raman Singh(BJP)is holding the power since 2003.Raman Singh is in the fray for a third term, the major players in the Congress are MP from Korba Charan Das Mahant, Ajit Jogi and former MP CM Motilal Vora

Model Code of conduct for Polls Implemented

The political parties have been informed about the opening of bank account for their candidates at least a day before filing their nominations and the candidates will have to manage their poll expenses from the account

The limit of poll expenditure in one constituency has been fixed at Rs.

About 4,64,57,724 voters in the state, of which are men and  women

A total of  polling stations are in the state

As per the directives of the Supreme Court, if the candidate misses out something while filling the nomination form then it will be the responsibility of the Returning Officer to inform the candidate about those missing entries

25% MLA's Face Criminal Charges
25 % of the 213 MLAs in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly are facing criminal charges, ranging from theft to murder, according to a report by the state unit of a civil society group, National Election Watch. The report is based on the affidavits filed by the candidates during the 2008 polls

 The Congress has finalised its candidates for 194 Assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh and will announce their names from October 25,2013 onwards.
"The Congress Central Election Committee has given a green signal to party candidates on 194 seats and the party will announce its list of candidates in a planned manner from October 25 onwards," party's state in-charge secretary Sanjay Nirupam said

BJP Releases First List of Candidates Thursday Oct 31,2013 -147 Candidates

The BJP Central Election Committee which met in New Delhi, declared the first list comprising of 147 candidates for the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections which denied tickets to two ministers and 16 MLAs and include three Lok Sabha members among its candidates

In the list of 147 candidates, 18 are women, 19 from the Scheduled Caste and 30 from the Scheduled Tribe. The party has fielded one ST candidate from a general seat.

The three MPs in the fray are -

• Yashodhara Raje Scindia, who will contest from her family's stronghold Shivpuri
• Bhupendra Singh (Khurai) and 
• K D Deshmukh ((Katangi)

Congress announces second list of candidates -82 Candidates

The All India Congress Committee announced its second list of candidates for 82 seats of the 230-member Madhya Pradesh Vidhan Sabha, in New Delhi on Tuesday Nov 06,2013

It is yet to declare candidates for 33 seats including the name of the candidate who will take on CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Budhni.

BJP Announce Second List of Candidates -64 Candidates

Fourteen MLAs have been dropped from the list.

The BJP has named nominees for 211 seats(147+64) so far. There are 230 seats in the Vidhan Sabha, for which scores of candidates are vying for tickets from both parties. The 19 seats left out by the BJP are in various parts of the State, and the party is attempting to quell internal dissidence before declaring the candidates from those seats.

The All India Congress Committee in New Delhi released a third list of 26 candidates, late on Nov 06,2013 Wednesday night

 Six candidates from the previous lists have been changed after picketing of Congress offices in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday

The congress has named nominees for 213 seats(115+82+26)so far.

 

Rebellion tears through ranks of Congress, BJP

Chaos prevailed in Congress and BJP offices across Madhya Pradesh as supporters and opponents of candidates for the November 25 Assembly elections resorted to picketing, burning of effigies and vandalism

Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Manak Agrawal quit his post on Nov 06,2013 Wednesday night after he was denied ticket to contest from Hoshangabad

“I am quitting my post but not the party. I will neither join any other party, nor fight the election as an independent. I believe that justice will be done some day,” he said

Congress MP Meenakshi Natarajan, a prominent face of the Rahul brigade, was gheraoed in the District Congress Committee office at Neemuch on Thursday Nov 07,2013 afternoon by supporters of Rajkumar Ahir, a disappointed aspirant. “They calmed down after I met them one by one and told them that I would communicate their grievances to the leadership. These are all committed workers,” she said

 The BJP also faced the same problem on the issue of nominations, with its workers burning effigies of senior leaders in Shajapur and Indore. In Ratlam, several BJP local body representatives and office-bearers resigned en masse and hundreds of workers marched through the town to protest against the nomination of State treasurer Chetan Kashyap. The workers gathered around the home of the former Home Minister, Himmat Kothari, who agreed to contest as an Independent

 BJP national vice-president and Rajya Sabha member Prabhat Jha told The Hindu that the rebels would be pacified and made to work for the party. “Dissent is normal when people are not nominated. These are committed BJP cadre.”

  Filing of Nominations by Candidates as on Nov 08,2013

As many as 2,884 candidates, including Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Union Minister Suresh Pachouri and Industries Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya, filed their nominations on the last day today for the November 25 state Assembly elections.

Since November 1, the day when the filing of nominations started till last day (today) a total of 4,894 candidates have filed their nominations from the 230 Assembly seats in the state 

Congress MP quits party, joins BJP

Lok Sabha MP from Hoshangabad seat, Rao Uday Pratap Singh, on Thursday resigned from the party and joined the ruling BJP along with some of his supporters. Dr. Singh’s decision to quit the party and his joining the BJP was announced at a press conference addressed by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here on Thursday Nov 14,2013
