Anti-Telangana Protests

Protests against bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh gained momentum on Thursday Aug 1,2013 with supporters of unified State enforcing the closure of various Government offices, business establishments, educational institutions and suspension of RTC buses while pressure mounted on Central and State Ministers and Members of Parliament and MLAs of all parties to resign their posts and take to the streets along with the common people without further delay


Protests were held by various sections in Bapatla, Chilakaluripet, Tenali and other towns also as the anti-Telangana voices grew louder

Protests in Vijayawada
The Samaikhyandhra Student JAC leaders rallied students from various colleges onto the main roads and raised slogans and organised rasta rooks

YSR Congress Party activists led by P. Gowtham Reddy targeted Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal’s residence in Mogalrajpuram

Perturbed by the near total shutdown and widespread protests in 13 districts from the students and youth besides civil society organisations, over a dozen Ministers and large number of MLAs and MLCs attended a meeting at the Ministers Club House on Thursday Aug 1,2013
There was near unanimity among them that they should resign and also force the Union Ministers and MPs to follow suit. 
“We have to clear the air and explain to them that it was the TDP and the YSR Congress which are responsible for the present crisis,” a senior Minister remarked at the meeting. 

Under Pressure MLA's Quit
In Anantapur District indicate that all five MLAs, Payyavula Keshav, Palle Ragunath Reddy, Paritala Sunitha, B. K. Parthasarathy, K. Venkata Prasad have decided to resign and send in their resignations to the Assembly Speaker, after witnessing the widespread protests by thousands of people in the district headquarter town and elsewhere
In Krishna District,at least three other MLAs including Devineni Uma have also decided to resign as they faced heat from the people who were calling for bandhs and organising protests in front of the house of people’s representatives

All the representatives from Seemandhra in the Cabinet, barring Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy and APCC president, threatened to resign while three dozen MLAs from the ruling party and the Telugu Desam actually sent in their papers to the Assembly Speaker

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Infrastructure and Investments, Ganta Srinivasa Rao tendered his resignation from the Kiran Kumar Reddy cabinet on Thursday Aug 1,2013 saying that the bifurcation of the State was not at all acceptable to the people whom he represents(was elected from Anakapalle Assembly Constituency in Visakhapatnam District)

Seven Congress MPs Resign

Seven Congress MPs resigned on Friday Aug 2,2013and four central ministers threatened to quit to protest against the division of Andhra Pradesh.Six Lok Sabha MPs and one Rajya Sabha member submitted their resignation letters .They were -
  • A Sai Prathap (Rajampet constituency) 
  • Anantha Venkatarama Reddy(Anantpur)
  • C V Harsh Kumar(Amalapuram-SC)
  • Vundavalli Arun Kumar(Rajahmundry)
  • Lagadapatti Rajagopal(Vijayawada)
  • S P Y Reddy(Nandyal)
  • K V P Ramachandra Rao(Rajya Sabha MP)


The Congress has 33 MPs from the state, 19 of them from the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions. Several Congress ministers and lawmakers from coastal and southern Andhra Pradesh have been on a resignation spree, amid angry protests outside their homes since the announcement of Telangana, India's 29th state

Four TDP MLAs Resign
The TDP MLAs, who sent in their resignation papers in the Assembly Speaker’s format were -
  • Beeda Mastan Rao (Kavali)
  • Kurugondla Ramakrishna (Venkatagiri)
  • Balli Durga Prasad (Gudur) and 
  • Parsa Venkataratnam (Sullurupeta)

TDP's Harikrishna Resigns Sunday Aug 4,2013
Rajya Sabha Member of Telugu Desam Party(TDP)N. Harikrishna on Sunday Aug 4,2013 resigned his membership of the Upper House demanding justice for both Telangana and coastal districts on account of bifurcation of the State.
Harikrishna signed his resignation paper at his father NTR’s memorial and sent it to Rajya Sabha’s presiding officer
