Entry Fee For Migrants to the UK

Home Secretary Theresa May wants to pilot the scheme, which will require an "entry fee" to be paid as part of a guarantee that visitors from certain countries will not be a burden on UK taxpayers.

Migrants, or family members already in the UK, would have to put up the sum, likely to be thousands of pounds. This would be paid back when their UK visa expires if they have not used certain services, such as non-emergency health care or other aspects of the welfare state

The move comes amid a growing debate about the numbers of new migrants preparing to come to Britain next year. Some 29 million Bulgarians and Romanians will gain the right to work in the UK under European "freedom of movement" rules.
