Kabaddi and Kabaddi World Cup

In kabaddi, two teams of 7  members each occupy opposite halves of a field of 10 m × 13 m in case of men and 8 m × 12 m in case of women.

• Each has three supplementary players held in reserve. 

• The game is played with 20-minute halves and a 5-minute halftime break during which the teams exchange sides.

• Teams take turns sending a "raider" to the opposite team's half, where the goal is to tag or wrestle ("confine") members of the opposite team before returning to the home half. Tagged members are "out" and temporarily sent off the field.

• The goal of the defenders is to stop the raider from returning to the home side before taking a breath.If any of the seven players cross the lobby without touching the raider he will be declared as "out".

• The raider is sent off the field if -

• the raider takes a breath before returning or
• the raider crosses boundary line or
• a part of the raider's body touches the ground outside the boundary (except during a struggle with an opposing team member).

• Each time when a player is "out", the opposing team earns a point. A team scores a bonus of two points, called a "lona", if the entire opposing team is declared "out". At the end of the game, the team with the most points wins.

Men World Cup

The Kabaddi World Cup was first played in 2004 and then in 2007 and 2010. So far India is the unbeaten champion in Kabaddi World Cup.
Iran is the next most successful nation being twice runner-up. Pakistan was the runner-up in 2010

 2012 Kabaddi World Cup(Men)

For the 3rd consecutive time, India won the men's final of the World Kabaddi Cup in Ludhiana,Punjab,India on Saturday Dec 15,2012 by defeating Pakistan 59-22.It was a one-sided match and Indian players dominated the game right from the beginning.At the end of the first half, India lead with a point difference of 34-9.

 

 India's raider Gagandeep Singh Gaggi Kheeranwali, Gurlal Ghanaur, Manminder Singh Sran and Sukhbir Sarawan bagged 10, 8, 8 and 7 points respectively whereas stoppers Ekam Hathur, Balbir Pala and Gurwinder Kahlwan scored 10, 7 and 4 points respectively.

With the title of World Cup Kabaddi, India got a prize money of Rs.2 crore and Pakistan took home Rs.1 crore while Canada clinched the third prize of Rs.51 Lakh.

 

 

 

 

Women World Cup

The Women's Kabaddi World Cup was first played in 2012 in Patna,Bihar,India. India won the championship defeating Iran in the finals.
