The Chennai International Film Festival (CIFF) is organised by a film society, the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF), with the support of the Govt of TN,South Indian Film chamber of Commerce and the Film Federation of India.
The festival has been organised since the year 2002.
CIFF showcases International as well as Indian feature films. The Indian language films are divided into the Tamil(around 12 films) and the Indian panorama feature films (around 12 films). The festival screens more than 100 international feature films.
The CIFF provides Awards in the following categories:
- Best film in Tamil competition
- Second Best film
- Best Director
- Special Jury Award for individual excellence
- Special award for independent films
- Online Film buff Award

The festival, organised every year by Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation, will held on Dec 13 -20,2012
160 films from 57 countries across the world will be screened.
Thangaraj, a key member of the event's organising team, said that the government has sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for this year's festival.
An interesting bouquet of world cinema, overwhelming numbers of women movies and presence of Amitabh Bachchan marked the 10th Chennai International Film Festival to a close.
There were 133 foreign films from over 50 countries.The eight day event screened around 154 films across five venues.Films from countries such as Australia, Argentina, Algeria, Austria, France, Belgium and many more were screened at the festival.
Some of the best films screened were Palme d'Or winning French-drama 'Amour', Oscar-nominated Bosnian drama 'Children of Sarajevo', and also American fantasy-drama 'Beasts of Southern Wild'.
The event also saw huge number of South Indian stars
Big B sat enthralled while a black and white portrait of his was being made.
'Pizza' director Karthik Subburaj was rewarded with a special jury award for his individual excellence
Sivakumar, Ram, Suhasini Maniratnam, Mohan, Balaji Sakthivel, Rajesh, Ramesh Kanna, Parthiban, Santha Kumar, Poornima Bhagyaraj were among those who took part at the event
An award was given to the person who watched and reviewed maximum number of films screened at the festival
