2012 Summer Paralympics in London,U.K - Aug 29 - Sep 09,2012

The 2012 Summer Paralympic Games will be the 14thParaolympics.The 2012 Summer Paralympics will use many of the same venues as the 2012 Summer Olympics, along with some new venues such as Eton Manor  for Wheelchair Tennis and Brands Hatch  for Road Cycling.


The Paralympic Torch Relay
The Paralympic Torch Relay began on Aug 22,2012 when groups of Scouts (both disabled and non-disabled) kindled the 4 Paralympic flames on the highest peaks of each nation of the United Kingdom -
Scafell Pike in England
Ben Nevis in Scotland
Slieve Donard in Northern Ireland and
Snowdon in Wales
Following the Ceremonial Lightings of Paralympic Torches, the 4 Flames were then brought down from each peak in a Lantern.



Claire Lomas lit the cauldron from the English national flame kindled on Scafell Pike

Claire Lomas, who was paralysed in a horse riding accident, lit the cauldron from the English national flame kindled on Scafell Pike.PM David Cameron, London Mayor Boris Johnson and London 2012 chairman Seb Coe attended the ceremony.
On 28 August the four flames, representing the spirit of each nation, will be brought to Stoke Madeville Hospital (recognising its significance to the history of the Paralympics) and combined to form a single Paralympic flame. In 24 hours this will then travel on a 92-mile route to London, where it will arrive at Olympic Stadium for the opening ceremony.

The relay will involve 580 different torchbearers in Teams of 5, nominated by the British Paraolympic Association  and through campaigns from the sponsors British Telecom,Lloyds TSB and Sainsbury's.

Participating Nations,Sports Events of 2012 Paraolympics
London 2012 will be the "biggest Paralympic Games ever." An estimated total of 4,200 athletes are expected to compete in the Games, an increase of 250 athletes in comparison to the 2008 Summer Paralympics. They will represent 165 countries, 19 more than in Beijing. Fifteen countries will be making their Paralympic Games début:

Girisha Hosanagara Nagarajegowda(24)wins India's first medal
Girisha Hosanagara Nagarajegowda from Karnataka gave India its first medal at the Paralympic Games after bagging a silver in the Men's High Jump F42 event.Girisha Hosanagara Nagarajegowda who has an impairment in his left leg, sailed over a height of 1.74m using scissors technique in the final of the event to finish second.
