Brahmeshwar Singh alias 'Mukhiyaji'(70), the chief of Bihar's outlawed private militia of landlords Ranvir Sena, was shot dead by six unidentified gunmen who pumped several bullets into him while he was taking an early morning walk at Katira Mohalla under Nawada police station, 71 kms from Patna.
Brahmeshwar Singh, who faced life imprisonment in several cases of carnage he had perpetrated on the lower caste landless poor, including in Laxmanpur Bathe where 61 Dalits were massacred in December, 1996, was acquitted and released from jail in April,2012.
The Bihar government has recommended a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into his killing.
Also a five-member special investigation team (SIT) of Bihar Police is probing the killing.
Bihar fears revenge attack after Ranvir Sena chief's killing
Fearing a revenge attack by supporters of slain Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeshwar Singh 'Mukhiya', a fresh alert has been sounded in Bihar's Magadh region, police said on Thursday June 07,2012.
The state government has issued an alert to police chiefs of Patna, Jehanabad, Arwal, Aurangabad, Nawada and Gaya districts, fearing a backlash from the supporters of Brahmeshwar Singh .
The alerted districts were the strongholds of the Ranvir Sena and its rivals - outlawed Maoist groups and the Communist Party of India-Marxist Leninist (CPI-ML) - till early 2000
