Young Pakistani leg-spinner Shadab Khan made a dream start to his international career as he bowled a defining spell to help the 'green brigade' win the opening T20I against West Indies by a comfortable margin of 6 wickets.
Shadab, making his T20I debut, returned with figures of 3 for 7 as he plucked the heart out of West Indies' batting.
In the process, he bowled the most economical completed (4 overs) spell ever in a T20 international by a debutant. His three wickets were instrumental in Pakistan restricting the hosts to a total of 111 runs in 20 overs.
The youngster's three scalps were Chadwick Watson, Lendl Simmons and Sunil Narine.
The record for the most economical bowling spell on debut was earlier jointly held by Nepal's Shakti Gauchan, India's Bhuvneshwar Kumar and West Indian Garey Mathurin, who had all recorded figures of 3 for 9 in their debut T20 international.
The record for the most economical completed spell in a T20 international is held by Honk Kong's Aizaz Khan, who conceded only four runs in his four overs and picked up two wickets against Nepal in November 2014.
The 18-year old leg-spinner's phenomenal international debut comes on the back of a stellar show in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), where he picked up 9 wickets in 8 matches for Islamabad United. His performance in the league led to him being picked for the West Indies tour.
Speaking after winning the 'Man of the match' award, Shadab said that the pitch at Bridgetown was similar to the ones he had played on during the PSL.
