South Korea's Parliament introduces an impeachment motion against President Park Geun Hye over graft allegation Thursday Dec 08,2016

South Korea's Parliament on Thursday Dec 08,2016 introduced an impeachment motion in parliament against President Park Geun Hye over graft allegation.

The motion, which will be tested with a full vote of the National Assembly on Friday, accuses the president of constitutional and criminal violations.

The final approval will still be on the Constitutional Court. And if it is granted, Park would become the first democratically elected South Korean president not to complete her full five-year term

However, Park would remain in office while the motion is being considered by the court.

The country had recently witnessed huge protests seeking Park's ouster.

The members of Park's Saenuri Party were also forced to support the opposition-sponsored motion in the face of a massive public support.

"Since it's an anonymous vote, you never know until you open the lid," AFP quoted the main opposition Democratic Party's Kang Sun-A as saying.

"We are not making any predictions, but we are pushing ahead with the impeachment motion since it is the will of the people," she added.
