Amul girl’s tribute to J Jayalalithaa

Amul’s latest tribute to former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa  has been widely appreciated on several social media platforms.

As the state as well as the country mourns the death of a beloved leader and political icon, the Amul Girl adds her condolences to the slew of messages that have been flooding the online space ever since the passing away of Amma was announced on December 5, at 11.30pm.

The greyscale caricature shows the Amul Girl, teary-eyed, standing with a picture of Jayalalithaa, with the headline ‘Leader of Ammasses….’

This is not the first time, though, that an Amul sketch has featured the five-time Tamil Nadu chief minister. Known not only for its dairy products, but Amul’s topical caricatures have always been something to look out for. From using an ascerbic tone through the little iconic Amul girl to comment on local and international affairs, to its classic one-liners, these ads provide a Pan-India comic comment on almost every situation of national and global importance, some of which include Jayalalithaa.

Previously, the FMCG brand’s caricatures have featured Amma winning the elections this year as well as before, her interaction with the Centre, the Cauvery water issue, cricket as well as several instances when the comment has taken a more censurous tone.

Here’s looking at some of the Amul ads that have – over the years – featured Jayalalithaa, in no particular order
