Maximum number of martrys in India belong to Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh has given a large number of its men to the Indian armed forces and many of them died in different wars, reveals UP Police while paying homage to its martyrs on Police Day.

According to UP Police Department's data, 479 jawans lost their lives in a year, out of which 116 were from Uttar Pradesh. In 2015, from September 1 to August 31, 479 jawans including policemen from all states of India, BSF, ITBT, CRPF have attained martyrdom in different wars. In the previous year also, out of 434 martyrs' 108 were from Uttar Pradesh, revealed UP Police.

Remembering the martyrs on Police Smriti Diwas(Police Day), Uttar Pradesh Police paid homage to them on October 21.

As per the data, one policeman is deployed over 1,000 people in urban areas whereas the number increases to 1500 in the rural belt in Uttar Pradesh.

All over India, October 21 is commemorated as Police Day.

On this day in 1959, a group of Indian policemen led by Karam Singh was attacked by the Chinese army at Hot Springs in Ladakh while on the lookout for a missing reconnaissance party. Ten cops were killed and seven taken as prisoners.

Subsequently, in January 1960, 21 October was officially designated as Police Commemoration Day.
Remembering the sacrifices of policemen, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav offered condolences to the bereaved soldiers and assured help to their kin.

He said, "I offer condolences to the martyrs of UP Police and pray to God to give strength to bereaved families."

"Samajwadi Party stands with martyrs' families and offered help to them. Party has announced Rs 20 lakh financial help to martyrs' kin. Now, their parents will also get Rs 5 lakh from the government," he added.
