BJP on Wednesday March 09,2016 declared Chandra Kumar Bose, grandnephew of Subhash Chandra Bose, its candidate against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Bhawanipur constituency in the upcoming Assembly elections. Chandra Kumar Bose had joined the BJP at the end of January 2016 after meeting party president Amit Shah at a rally in Kolkata, even as the central government began declassifying secret files to settle questions over the death of Netaji, the iconic freedom fighter and Congress party leader who formed a national army to fight for Independence with the help of the Japanese in the 1940s.

The 2016 West Bengal Assembly Elections, which has 294 seats, will be held in six phases, on April 4 and 11 (under Phase-I), 17, 21, 25, 30 and May 5,2016

The two-stage first phase in West Bengal covers Left-Wing Extremism-affected areas.
