Jet Airways introduces WiFi-based in-flight content streaming service for passengers

Adding more of technology to its flight service, Jet Airways has announced a new WiFi-based in-flight (IFE) entertainment streaming service that will allow passengers to watch content on their personal gadgets mid-air.

The new in-flight service allows wireless streaming of content directly onto WiFi-enabled smartphones, tablets, and laptops. It will offer wireless streaming of movies, TV programmes, music, interactive games, and children's programmes right onto the flyer's devices

Developed in collaboration with Global Eagle Entertainment Inc, the streaming service will debut on the Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft in the Jet Airways fleet starting from the second quarter of 2016.
Jet Airways further plans to upgrade from a streaming service to a full broadband satellite connectivity, subject to regulatory approvals, which will allow flyers to surf the internet, check emails, browse through social media, look up flight information, send instant messages, get real time travel services and destination deals, right from their smartphone when they are mid-air.

These wireless services will be rolled out in phases and once fully available, it will allow passengers to enjoy high-quality content while the adaptive video streaming technology will ensure that the best possible video quality is played automatically and is optimised according to the device being used by flyers onboard.

Gaurang Shetty, Senior Vice President - Commercial, Jet Airways, said: “Jet Airways has constantly innovated to adopt new age technologies to enhance the guest experience. This best-in-class, customer-focused initiative will provide superior entertainment and communication options to guests and we are confident it will set new benchmarks by delivering high quality, global entertainment content to guests’ personal devices."
