After a month of incessant rains and flooding, schools and colleges
in Chennai and its neighbouring districts have reopened on Monday Dec 14,2015
Soon after the onset of North East Monsoon in October, incessant rains hampered normal life with the city recording heavy rainfall last week that led to inundation of large areas. Essential commodities took a hit while educational institutions were closed particularly those in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur and Cuddalore districts.
As there has been dry weather over last few days and normal life is getting restored, schools and colleges reopened today.
However, 29 government and government-aided schools will remain shut.
Most of the schools served as relief shelters for thousands of people who were displaced by the floods.
