Lok Sabha TV aired visuals of the repeated disruptions
and demonstrations in the Well of the Lower House for the first time in
more than five years on Tuesday Aug 11,2015
The TV channel’s
decision was prompted by a visibly upset Speaker Sumitra Mahajan
declaring amid the din and chaos in the House that the channel should
air the scenes for people at large to see how members of the Congress
were behaving.
“I am requesting Lok Sabha TV show
them on air,” Ms. Mahajan announced from the Chair shortly after
question hour ended. She repeated from the Chair that the channel “must
show what is happening” as the Congress protests grew louder. After a
few minutes, the channel began to telecast the scenes of chaos in the
Well.
Though Speaker Sumitra Mahajan repeatedly appealed to the Congress
MPs from displaying placards and protesting in the well, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan
turned down protests from the Opposition to stop the proceedings till
order was restored. “I will not let 44 people deny 440 others their
right,” Speaker Sumitra Mahajan said repeatedly in the House.
