President Pranab Mukerjee to confer Bharat Ratna to Atal Bihari Vajpayee on March 27,2015

 
President Pranab Mukerjeee will confer Bharat Ratna to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Madan Mohan Malviya on March 27,2015  and March 30,2015 respectively
  

While the President will go Vajpayee’s residence in Delhi to confer the award on the former prime minister, Pandit Malviya’s family will receive the award on his behalf at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his entire cabinet is expected to be present at Vajpayee’s residence at 5 pm on March 27,2015 to witness the BJP stalwart being bestowed with the honour.

President Pranab Mukerjeee had awarded Bharat Ratna to Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya (posthumously) and to Atal Bihari Vajpayee on December 24,2014

About Atal Bihari Vajpayee (DOB Dec 25,1924)


a parliamentarian for over 4 decades,elected to the Lok Sabha 9 times and twice to Rajya Sabha

one of India's most charismatic leaders, Vajpayee is lauded as a statesman and has been often described as the moderate face of BJP.

 has been credited with taking bold initiatives, notable among them being the historic bus journey to Lahore in 1999 when he signed the landmark Lahore Declaration with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with both sides pledging to push for peace and security

India's longest serving prime minister outside of Congress party, Vajpayee's detractors called him "mask" of the RSS.

was the  Prime Minister for three terms -
  •  for 13 Days in 1996 (May 16,1996 to June 01,1996)
  • from March 19,1998 and the Govt lasted 13 months until mid-1999.The Govt lost the ensuing vote of confidence motion in the Lok Sabha by a single vote on April 17,1999
  • from Oct 13,1999 to May 19,2004

 has been ailing for sometime, has been credited for taking bold initiatives, notable being the attempt to bridge Indo-Pak differences




About Mdan Mohan Malviya
An educationist with a vision, Malviya's main achievement was the establishment of the Banaras Hindu University.
Born on December 25, 1861, Malviya was catapulted into the political arena immediately after his first moving speech at the second Congress session held in Kolkata in 1886. He was President of INC in 1909 and 1918.
Malviya is also remembered for his stellar role in the Independence movement and his espousal of Hindu nationalism.
He was one of the initial leaders of the right-wing Hindu Mahasabha.


Note

Since its inception, 43 people including former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bhadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi besides singing legend Lata Mangeshkar and the batting mastreo have received the prestigious award.
