Raghubar Das Elected Jharkhand Chief Minister Friday Dec 26,2014

 
Five-time MLA Raghubar Das was chosen as Jharkhand's first non-tribal chief minister on Friday Dec 26,2014, thrre days after his Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) victory in the assembly elections.The results on Tuesday gave the BJP and its ally AJSU Party 42 seats, an absolute majority in the House of 81 elected members.

At a meeting to elect the leader of the legislative party, Das' name was proposed by former assembly speaker CP Singh and seconded by others.

The official announcement would come shortly, after which Das will meet the governor and stake claim for the formation of government.

Raghubar Das is likely to take oath by Sunday, well ahead of the expiry of the outgoing government's term on January 3, 2015.

Hemant Soren, who led the 15-month-old UPA government, resigned as chief minister on Tuesday after his party - the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) - ended well short of the target with just 17 seats
