Oscar Pistorius begins jail sentence for Reeva Steenkamp death
Oscar Pistorius began serving a five year sentence behind the towering walls of a grim South African prison on Tuesday Oct 21,2014 after a sensational trial for killing his girlfriend.
Oscar Pistorius had testified that he shot Steenkamp, 29, four times through a locked bathroom door at his upmarket Pretoria home after he mistakenly believed she was an intruder. Prosecutors had argued that he murdered her in a fit of rage after an argument.

Judge Thokozile Masipa ordered Pistorius to serve a maximum five years in prison for culpable homicide after a seven-month trial watched live by millions around the world
Oscar Pistorious is unlikely to serve the full jail term after he was found guilty of culpable homicide for killing his girlfriend last year, legal experts said on Tuesday.
In terms of current legislation which places strong emphasis on the rehabilitation of offenders, Pistorius could be out of prison in ten months’ time, according to some experts.
“Five years in terms of [Section] 276 of the Criminal Procedure Act means the accused serves one-sixth of the sentence, which is 10 months,” justice department spokesman Mthunzi Mhaga said
The case was a stunning fall from grace for the 27-year-old athlete, who made history by becoming the first double amputee Paralympian to compete against able-bodied athletes at the 2012 London Olympics, inspiring millions
