His name was already decided by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command, but it was only on Tuesday Oct 21,2014 that Manohar Lal Khattar got officially chosen as the next Haryana chief minister.
Khattar (60), who has been a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist since 1977, was unanimously elected the leader of BJP Legislature Party in Haryana on Tuesday.
The decision was taken on the basis of a resolution passed at the meeting of newly-elected BJP MLAs
Om Prakash Dhankhad and Anil Vij, the other contenders, were asked to second the resolution.
Union minister Venkaiah Naidu and senior party leader Dinesh Sharma were also present at the meeting as observers.
Manohar Lal Khattar will be sworn in as the chief minister on Sunday. He will be the first non-Jat to lead the state in 18 years
